Australian authorities formally accused the teenager on December 18th. Authorities allege he is part of a suspected loosely organised internet-based network of offenders operating from behind keyboards in order to initiate an “immediate and large-scale emergency response”.

“Often young males between the ages of 11 to 25, are engaging in activities such as swatting calls, doxing and hacking to earn credibility, notoriety and acknowledgement in their online groups.”

In connection with the case, police took possession of several electronic devices and an illegal weapon discovered in the teen’s possession. This action was part of a specialized task force established in the final quarter of 2025.

Australian police confirmed it began its probe following tip-offs from the FBI.

A senior FBI official, from the International Operations Division, said that the “dangerous and disturbing offense” of false reports put lives at risk and drained critical first responder resources.

“This investigation demonstrates that secrecy on the internet is an false notion,” he stated in a shared press release with authorities.

He further stated, “We are dedicated to collaborating with international partners, our overseas colleagues, and tech companies to find and prosecute individuals that exploit technology to create danger to the public.”
