Spurs Boss Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed keeper Vicario were informed later "they cannot be true Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in two goals in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.
But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when the keeper lost possession well beyond his area.
The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the sideline.
But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, some Spurs supporters jeered him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering episodes really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough jeering after the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with each other going forward."
Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period performance.
Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Match
Italy international Vicario is in his third season with Spurs.
He said after the match that he had to take the criticism.
"That score was a error of my own, I take accountability for that," he said.
"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult challenge to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to remain more composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to reverse results. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division goal of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
10 seconds passed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was 5 moments after the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson said.
"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of additional opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to make the correct contact and get it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
While Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the close of the year.
Just a single of those victories have come since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost another match. Every game has a single narrative, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."
Spurs have lost four straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a huge team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
